Wolves are the largest members of the dog family. Gray wolves are the most common and were once found all over the Northern Hemisphere, but wolves and humans have a long adversarial history. Wolves almost never attack humans, but they are considered one of the animal world's most fearsome villains. In the lower 48 states, gray wolves were hunted to near extinction, though some populations survived and others have since been reintroduced. Few gray wolves survive in Europe, though many live in Alaska, Canada, and Asia. Wolves are an extremely social animal. They exist as a social unit called a pack. They travel and hunt in a group and perform almost all other activities in the company of fellow wolves. The pack, the basic unit of wolf social life, is usually a family group. It is made up of animals related to each other by blood and family ties of affection and mutual aid. The size of the pack depends on variables including the current numbers of the wolf population, the abundance of food, and social factors within the wolf pack. The alpha male and female are the oldest members of the pack and the ones with the most experience in hunting, and defending territory. The Wolf is a Great Teacher and pathfinder, representing strength and confidence. Look inside to see the silent flying Owl, the powerful Bear, and the tenacious Salmon. Find the Ladybug, she is the symbol for good luck and happiness!
