Penguins do not live in the wild in any location in the Northern Hemisphere. There are 17 species of penguin, each slightly different The northern most colony of penguins are located in the Galapagos Islands. The Galapagos Penguins can survive close to the equator because the Humboldt current brings cold waters to the islands from the Antarctic. They have completely sacrificed the ability to fly, developed flippers and their feathers have evolved into flattened feather shafts. Penguins are awkward on land and excellent swimmers underwater. In order to breathe while swimming, they 'porpoise' out of the water, take a breath, and then dive back into the water. They are adapted to dive deep and can stay underwater for long periods of time. They understand underwater currents, and spend a lot of time in the water, diving to find food such as crustaceans, krill, fish and squid. Look inside to find the Sea Turtle, Hammerhead Shark, and the very odd Blue Footed Boobie. The Marine Iguana is basking on the volcanic rocks after a morning swim. One of my favorite experiences is having the honor of swimming with Penguins in the wild! Penguin may find you to give you a sense of purpose when you are lost, and to help you find the determination to get on with your life. Penguins are very purposeful creatures. Many people feel that penguins are also the symbol of good manners and will teach you how to behave politely around others. Penguin energy also has a lot to do with dreams and slipping between worlds. Listen to your dreams how to move through life, and don't forget to find the Ladybug who will bring you good luck!

Hand-Drawn by Artist Sue Coccia. Never Digital, Always Authentic
Sue's Micron pen meets watercolor paper. Thirty years of drawing endangered wildlife the slow way – in ink by hand.
Before every piece, she researches the animal: its habitat, what threatens its survival, the delicate ecosystem keeping it alive. Then, working from the center outward, she hand-draws the interconnectedness – hidden animals, weather patterns, environmental symbols woven throughout each intricate design.
Each piece takes days, sometimes weeks. No AI. No digital shortcuts. Just Sue crafting with deliberate, reverent slowness for wildlife that deserves our full attention.

Your Purchase Protects Our Orcas & Salmon
In the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon) the iconic orcas (killer whales) of Puget Sound are starving. Their primary food source, wild salmon, has been decimated by dams blocking the Columbia and Snake Rivers, destroying the migration routes these fish have traveled for thousands of years.
Fewer salmon means fewer orcas. It's that simple, and that devastating.
This isn't just a regional crisis. These are American endangered species fighting for survival against infrastructure decisions made decades ago. Since 1996, Sue has supported conservation organizations like Save Our Wild Salmon and the Center for Whale Research working to restore salmon runs and protect the last remaining Southern Resident orcas.
Every purchase helps fund the fight to restore habitat and give these iconic species a fighting chance.
A Promise in Every Piece
