The kapok tree has long been considered sacred by the indigenous peoples of America. The Mayans believe that the kapok is the tree of life whose roots extend to the underworld and whose branches hold up the heavens. The ancient Mayan word for the Kapok tree means "raised up sky". The Maya believed that a great Kapok tree stood at the center of the earth. Its magnificent canopy symbolized the heavens and its flowers symbolized the stars. Today, the Kapok tree remains a true tree of life, supporting vital rainforest plant and animal life. In Africa, the kapok is also considered sacred. It is said that sleeping on pillows made of kapok cotton will bring good luck, purify and empower your material and spiritual energy and bring good dreams . Slaves brought to the Caribbean often slept on pillows stuffed with kapok. See under the canopy the strength of Jaguar within the Blue Morpho Butterfly. The giant Anteater and Tapir peer watchfully at the boa constrictor tasting life. Scarlet Macaw, Toucan and Squirrel Monkey serenade the Tree while the beautiful Angels Trumpet and rain forest flowers add sweet fragrance. The sacred Tree symbolizes Hope, Help and Strength, rising up from the house of water for constant life. Find the Ladybug who brings you good fortune and happiness!
